The girls have been working so hard that we took a break from our work to make some wreaths. Although they are still works in progress, the wreaths are adorable.

Crow/Canary Soccer
On a crisp November afternoon the girls of 9A and 9B participated in a friendly competition of soccer. This was their first Crow/Canary competition at school, and it was full of smiles. The games were well played and evenly matched. Most importantly, however, the girls showed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. This was quite fitting because in their history class right before the game, the girls read about the first Olympic games and how good sportsmanship was just as important, if not more so, than being strong and athletic.
Meeting with the Sixth Grade
After the 6th grade returned from Echo Hill, they came back and created books describing their adventures. When the books were polished they shared their creations with the girls of 9B.

Our Buddies
The girls of 9B were so excited to meet their Sixth Age buddies on Tuesday afternoon. The girls brought some of their favorite books to share with their new buddies, and everyone contributed to our thumb print pumpkin patch.
Halloween
Today was an exciting day at school. The girls started off with a costume parade which was immediately followed by our Halloween celebration. Even with the excitement of the day, the girls were able to get some quality work finished as well!

The Greek Gods and Goddesses
The auditorium at school was the place to be yesterday! The Greek gods and goddesses traveled all the way to Calvert for a visit. Although we had many gods and goddesses right from Mt. Olympus, we did have quite a few modern day gods and goddesses visit!

Our Thought Bubbles
In reading class we have been learning about metacognition. The boys and girls now know that this really means we are "thinking about our thinking." To really practice our thinking, we had one student read aloud while the other did the thinking. We learned that thinking out loud is a great deal of fun, especially when you get to wear a bright orange thought bubble!

Visitors from a Different Time!
Today the girls had "visitors" who successfully traveled through time. We had three cave girls visit the 9B classroom! While they were here, they read compositions describing the typical day in their lives. Life as a cave girl definitely sounded exciting but dangerous! Fortunately these cave girls were very enthusiastic!

A Tour of 9B
Join your very own tour guides, the girls of 9B, as they show you around the classroom. Together they decided what was most important in our room and what they thought others would like to see.
Math
Our first chapter in math reviews place value. To help make an abstract idea more concrete, the girls used base ten blocks. Before any learning began, the girls had time to play and create whatever they could with their blocks.

First Day Fun
WOW!
What a great start we are off to in 9B! The girls came in ready to see their friends, meet some new ones, and get to work. They even managed to squeeze a quick tour of the new wing into the day. Tomorrow is sure to be another busy day, but after a terrific day one, day two should be just as successful!
9B is all smiles at the end of the day.
And there is always room for fun during the day!
The Accordion Folder
This year in Ninth Age the girls will be using a new organizational folder. We will refer to it as their "accordion folder," and it will travel between home and school daily. We have found it to be helpful in keeping papers and homework organized.

Welcome to 9B!
Things are starting to come together in 9B. The only thing missing is the class! Tomorrow is sure to be a great start to the school year. At the end of last year many of the current 9B members visited during Moving Up Day. Everyone was filled with excitement and anticipation. Hopefully, that excitement and anticipation has carried over. Although the room is quiet and empty now, the girls' enthusiasm will help ensure a great start to our year.
Here is just a peak at the room!
